Canadian Hypocrisy and racism

One of the things that annoys me greatly about Canadians is their willingness to criticize other countries while ignoring their own. I hear people criticizing the new Brazilian President for his statements on what he intends to do to indigenous peoples in Brazil. A great wail for the Brazilian indigenous peoples has gone up in Canada. Yet Canada actually treats indigenous peoples in Canada far worse. Canadians don’t just “say” they are going to do it. Canadians have been stealing lad and resources off treaty and unceded lands for centuries. They have engaged in assimilation policy and practice. They do not fix the polluted waters on reserves even after they have been shamed in the corporate press.  There are more indigenous kids in foster care now than at the height of the 60s scoop. It goes on and one. Canadians also get really upset when they get called on all this in their “own” lands. They say we tolerate difference and are innocent of racism when the opposite is true. When someone like Matthew Coon Come once chief of the AFN says Canada is a racist place then the corporate press, the politicians and public deny, deny and shoot the messenger. Canada should not be throwing stones at any other country. It should live up to its responsibilities and practice what they preach to others. I am not optimistic.
