Trudeau II’s smoke and mirrors on Decolonization

If you read the National Observer this morning you will see an article on how Trudeau II is going to decolonize the Settler relationships with indigenous peoples. Once again he trots out the tired old solutions on making the laws more responsive and trying to turn more indigenous peoples into the middle class. No where in Trudeau’s vision is there anything about returning land or dealing with treaties using indigenous epistemologies and ontologies. No where is any mention made of how naturalized negative and culturally specific Settler views about indigenous peoples need to be completely changed. These are the central issues that must be addressed yet Trudeau II will not go there. Decolonization cannot happen until these issues are materially addressed. Once again, more smoke and mirrors.
