The Oily Irony of Ft. McMurray

A good pal of mine wrote this on FB this morning and it is worth sharing.

“Oh oily irony–watched the news broadcast from Ft. McGreasey last night to witness giant gas guzzling pickup trucks stuck in massive gridlock trying to flee a city spawned entirely by the worst excesses of the fossil fuel industry due to an uncontrollable wildfire deeply connected to climate change stemming from? BURNING FOSSIL FUELS!! And where are they going to be housed as they flee North? Among other places, the First Nations Reserves where pollution due to this activity has run out of control for years, resulting in untold suffering. What a mess…and does our self congratulatory “award winning” national broadcaster report this cruel and stupid irony? No, of course not. They are breathlessly engaged with the personal losses of these sad people, and their own image as reporters on the dangerous front line–ignoring the fact that we are all on that line now.”
