The Stereotype of Journalists

I always find it sad that the public actually expects journalists to uncover the truth and present it, unvarnished, to the masses clamouring for the real truth. Sorry, the majority of journalists have always been status-quo supporters and not the the stereotype of the lone crusader fighting against the powers that be. Whether restricted by the news values of individual papers or chains, by editorial policy and by fears of being locked out from gov’t sources (journalists’ main info source) for going outside of accepted parameters etc ,journalists over all are a bunch of timid corporate-pleasing creatures. If you look at Medialens, for example, you can see how the supposedly vanguard, freedom fighting Guardian is hoisted on its own petard regularly for supporting the status quo. I can’t actually see why anyone would want to become one given this. There are exceptions like John Pilger, Martin Lukacs and Glenn Greenwald but they are few and far between.
