Harper’s Foreign Policy Hypocrisy

Jeffrey Simpson for the G and M sometimes writes as if his head is not stuck up his ass. Yesterday’s page F2 column was one of these. He asks quite rightly why Canada has committed over 14 years to selling Saudi Arabia 10 billion worth of light armoured vehicles to a “systematic human-rights abusing regime.” He notes that it is the Saudi promotion of the Wahhabi/Salafist form of Sunni Islam that has formed the religious basis for most of, I hate to use the word, Jihadism. He asks why the Harperites are coseying up the country most responsible for driving down the price of oil “crippling Canada’s oil industry and hurting the economy…” He wonders how the Harperites boast of “conducting a high-minded ‘principled’ foreign policy” plays out against this arms sale. All good questions that those who support conservative policies and vote for the conservatives need to be asking. I would have been explicitly using the words hypocricy and hippocrits as opposed to merely implying it as Simpson does. Harper and his government are a blight on Canada. Let’s get rid of them, shall we?
