The conservatives now have the answer for future oil spill cleanup costs. Their big idea is to raise the price industry has to pay for spill clean-up from 161 million to 400 million. A major oil spill in any of BC’s narrow channels would eat up $400 million is a few days. Of course this depends on whether you could actually even collect the money from these oil companies who have slippery ways of payment avoidance. I wonder how much more the Harperites will now increase the subsidies that we pay to the oil companies to offset this business cost for the oil industry? Smoke and mirrors again. Who gets screwed? We do.
