Canadian’s hypocrisy about “Nigerian girls”

While I think it is terrible that these “Nigerian girls” are being subjected to these horrors, I always find that Cdns are always more interested in condemning and advocating for action against foreign evils than addressing what is in their own backyard. This has always been so. Cdns loved to condemn apartheid in S. Africa while being its progenitors with the reserve system in Canada. They condemned the whites in SA for their segregation and oppression of blacks while ignoring how Canada has been built on, and continues to operate on and benefit from, the colonial oppression of indigenous peoples within Canada. Today, Cdns are stamping their hypocritical little feet about “Nigerian girls” when, by the RCMP’s latest underestimate, 1200 indigenous girls and women have disappeared. Cdns continue to ignore the racism that indigenous women face everyday with stereotypes like “Squaw” screamed out of passing cars by white folks. The list goes on…. So next time you feel the need to go on about “Nigerian girls” perhaps you out to consider doing something about the very real problems indigenous women face in Canada.
