Charities muzzled by Harper things just got a lot worse in Canada

This morning (see the link below) David Suzuki resigned from his own organization because he does not want to give the Harperites cause to de-fund it because of political comments that go against the rules for charities. Here we have an example of a very sad state of affairs. Rather than becoming a test case by staying on and continuing to exercize his democratic right to speak, Suzuki is caving to the anti-democratic, pro-oil threats of the Harperites. It would have been better for him to stand up and go to court over this because he has the stature that would have kept the corporate press reasonably honest in its coverage of this. He could have embarrassed the Harperites into backing down. If every charity bows down in fear and does not challenge this legal restriction and try to get it changed then the Harperites have won. I can just imagine the little right wing, god fearing and hypocritical Harperite cabal halelujahing and rejoicing over Suziki's action. Of course the Harperites will continue to use  Canadian federal tax money to promote their ideologies in public.
